Study Abroad Opportunities
The Dawn of a New Day in Agricultural Education
Maymester 2007
Jamaica is the location for the Youth Development and Agricultural Education Maymester study abroad experience. The course is headquartered at the College of Agricultural Sciences and Education (CASE) located in the Portland Parrish in Northeast Jamaica. As Jamaica’s only higher education institution offering programming in agriculture, CASE developed an Agricultural Education program in 1999. Students earn six credits of education coursework in EDCI 205A Exploring Teaching as a Career and EDCI 285 Multiculturalism in Education. Several day trips originate from CASE and include travel to Kingston and Ocho Rios with opportunities for diving, swimming with dolphins, snorkeling and sightseeing.

Science Communication: Focusing on English Food and Agriculture
Maymester 2008 (May 15-29)
This course will engage students in concentrated study of selected prominent English food and agricultural issues and the ways through which mass media communicate with and educate the public about these issues. Of particular interest in the course are the ways in with British media both differ from and resemble American media in their communication of new and/or technical food and agricultural issues, such as foot and mouth disease, obesity, organic food production, local food systems, and BSE.
