Indiana Summer Agricultural Education Internship Summer 2016
The purpose of the Summer Agricultural Education Internship is to spark an interest in current undergraduate students to complete a teacher licensure program and, upon graduation, enter the teaching profession. Many times, undergraduate students complete internships for agricultural businesses and are offered full-time positions before they ever have the opportunity to experience being in the classroom. The intent is that if students receive hands-on experience in the teaching profession during their undergraduate training, they will be retained as future teachers.
Scope and Activities
The program is a 6-week internship which will consist of all aspects of the three-circle educational model classroom instruction, FFA, and experiential learning. One partial week of the summer will be spent at the Indiana Association of Agricultural Educators (IAAE) summer conference, providing opportunities for professional development and networking. The conference will be held June 7-9 at Four Points by Sheraton, 1600 Cumberland Ave., West Lafayette. Another partial week, June 13-16, will be spent on the Purdue University campus at the Indiana FFA State Convention, assisting their teacher(s).
The Department of Youth Development & Agricultural Education is pleased to announce the pairings for the current Indiana Agricultural Education Summer Internship Program. We appreciate the interest in this program and look forward to continuing and possibly growing the program in future years. These internships were funded by the generous support of Purdue University's Youth Development & Agricultural Education Department and a STAR (State Teach Ag Results) grant from CHS Foundation, DuPont Pioneer, and Growth Energy. YDAE Ambassadors Program
A vision by Dr. Mark Russell, Beth Theobald, Amy Conrad, and Elizabeth Byers has been formed into the Youth Development and Agricultural Education Ambassadors program. This program will allow YDAE to have student representatives for recruitment and networking efforts. YDAE Ambassadors were selected from previous Agricultural Education Ambassadors and new applicants from both Agricultural Communication and Agricultural Education. Ambassadors will participate in a variety of events throughout the year, including the College of Agriculture Alumni Fish Fry, Purdues For Me days, and Homecoming. Additionally, these students will travel to different Ivy Tech campuses and high schools across the state promoting the department and majors. Ambassadors will also assist when potential students visit Purdue University. Amy Conrad is "excited to see students in YDAE engage future Purdue students and in turn grow as individuals".
Please join us in congratulating the new YDAE Ambassadors: Anna Hall, Brandan Bergdall, Cameron Frazier, Elizabeth Brown, Jen Miller, Jordan Paine, Kelly Dressler, Kelsey Quinn, Laura Crosby, Marissa Modglin, Morgan Winder, Skylar Clingan, Tori Gilbert, Wyatt Lucas, Morgan Hasler, Mikaela Wieland, Sheradan Hill, and Joanna Claudy.
