Research Focus
Primary Focus for this Study
Dr. Filley, a molecular stable isotope biogeochemist, is an expert in two areas that benefit the project; in microbial decomposition of plant tissues and in the isolation and measurement of structure and stable isotope composition of biomolecules such as lignin and cutin. He is responsible for Hypothesis 4.
Synergistic Activities
- An active promoter of volunteer teaching at the primary school level where Dr. Filley provides yearly lectures to second and third graders about Geosciences.
- Supports under-graduate research, and has advised 5 undergraduate students in the last three years. Two had projects that resulted in publications.
