Research Focus
Primary Focus for this Study
Dr. Applegate is a microbial ecologist with expertise in the construction and use of bioluminescence technologies, metabolic engineering, and other genetic tools. His involvement is a core component of Hypothesis 2.
Synergistic Activities
- Active participant in “Professors in the Classroom.” This outreach based activity allows Purdue researcher to engage secondary school students by teaching in high school classrooms at the request of the secondary teacher.
- Annual instructor in the Food Science and Nutrition Workshop, a 3-day campus based workshop for high school students, sponsored by the Department of Youth Development and Agricultural Education
- Undergrad resea4rch experiences, 2-4 undergrads in the laboratory each semester. Two current students have presented at national meetings in 2003
- Developed a graduate level biosensor course (2004)
