Researchers in Australia may have found a more effective treatment for the parasite that causes toxoplasmosis using gold nanoparticles. The gold nanoparticles contain antibodies to the parasite and seek out the cells with the parasite. The nanoparticles are then exposed to a laser light which kills the parasite.

Researchers working at jointly at Harvard and MIT are trying to develop a nanoparticle drug delivery system that will release medication on demand. The nanoparticle will have a piece of DNA and a magnet attached to it. The nanoparticle would travel through the bloodstream to the targeted tissue.
