ACT Mission

The Mission of National ACT is to build relationships among agricultural communication professionals and college students and faculty, to provide professional and academic development for members and to promote agriculture through communications efforts.

What is ACT?

Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow (ACT) is a nationwide preprofessional organization for university students who are interested in the field of communication related to the agricultural sciences.

Membership in the organization is open to any major. Many members are pursuing careers in agricultural public relations, advertising, journalism, or organizational communications, but any student with an interest in agriculture and communication may join.

Why Should You Join?

To meet students with similar career interests, and to make valuable professional contacts.

To attend career-development activities.

To build your resume and portfolio.

To communicate with students like yourself.

To get involved with community service activities and take on leadership roles.

To have your work critiqued. Through the annual critique and contest, students may enter their work (photography, writing, broadcast tapes, advertising, publications, etc.) in national competition, where it is critiqued by professional communicators. It's your chance for national recognition while you're still in college.

History and Purpose

The American Association of Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow (ACT) was established in 1970 at the annual convention of Agricultural Communicators in Education (ACE). The Purdue ACT chapter was started in early 1980s. Ashley Woodward was the first Purdue ACT member to attain a NACT office in 2005 as First Vice President and in 2006, she was named NACT President. She is the first student in the College of Agriculture history to be president of national organization. Purdue ACT hosted the NACT Professional Development Conference in Indianapolis in March 2007.
